Quantum Leap - Case Study
In 2001, Scott began working in partnership with New Zealand's largest meat processing company Silver Fern Farms Ltd (formerly PPCS Ltd) to develop automation for the processing of lamb carcasses.
The aims of the development were to:
- Increased yield (more meat to sell)
- Increased cutting accuracy
- Reduced Health and Safety risks
- Reduced bacteria
In 2003, Scott and PPCS established a joint venture company, Robotic Technologies Ltd (RTL). RTL's strategy is to automate the entire lamb boning room. This strategy is being implemented in a modular fashion, with the five main modules of the front end of the boning room all currently under development.
The first three of these are in the early stages of commercialisation, with commercial systems now in existence in both New Zealand and Australia.
